Coast Guard member arrested in Montauk home invasion

A member of the United States Coast Guard slipped into a Montauk woman's Essex Street home and attacked her while she was sleeping, according to East Hampton town police.
They arrested Petty Officer Matthew McGee, 22, for allegedly entering the 67-year-old victim's home through an unlocked door and attacking her around midnight Saturday.
McGee faces charges including burglary and assault.
Jay Burke, the victim's husband, told Newsday that he was sleeping upstairs while his wife was in a downstairs bedroom. He said McGee choked, punched and bit his wife during a 40-minute assault.
"She was bloody, extremely bloody -- my first thought was she must have fell down the stairs," he said.
Burke says his wife was taken to Southampton Hospital with "severe" injuries.
