FARMINGDALE -

Thousands of Long Islanders will hit the sand at Jones Beach this weekend as the Bethpage Air Show takes to the skies.

Some 150,000 people are expected at the annual Memorial Day weekend event, marking the unofficial start of summer. The United States Air Force Thunderbirds are headlining this year.

Authorities say extra security measures will be in place, including extra police officers, surveillance cameras and additional screeners at different locations. There will also be cement barriers in place to prevent vehicles from going onto walkways, officials say.

?Lucky beachgoers got a sneak peak of the festivities Friday, as practice runs were underway by the U.S. Army Golden Knights.
