Man faces felony charges after striking postal worker with car

A Deer Park man is facing new charges in a crash that cost a postal worker his leg.
Police say Stefano Belloisi, 51, was driving a Lincoln Continental westbound on Prairie Drive when it veered off the road, struck mail carrier Michael Martinez, his postal truck, a hydrant and a telephone pole.
Prosecutors say Belloisi had cocaine, Xanax and Valium in his system during the incident. His defense attorney disputes the drug charges, saying, "Mr. Belliosi was involved in an accident that had nothing to do with drugs or any other carelessness."
Martinez, 40, of Bayport, is still hospitalized in the ICU at Stony Brook University Hospital.
Belloisi was arraigned Tuesday on felony charges of reckless driving and criminal possession of a controlled substance. He pleaded not guilty.
The new charges are in addition to three other misdemeanors. His bail was increased to $200,000 cash or $400,000 bond.
