Driver who exited car is struck, seriously hurt on service road

BAY SHORE -

A man was struck by a car and seriously injured in Bay Shore early Sunday morning.

Police say 30-year-old Jonathan Esposito had pulled over and exited his car on the side of the eastbound Sunrise Highway Service road near Fifth Avenue. He was struck by a passing Volkswagen around 1:15 a.m.

Esposito was taken to Southside Hospital.

The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as Kristen Erlwein, 21, of Islip, was not injured.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
