Waitress accused of threatening family with steak knife in Massapequa
Police say a Long Island waitress was arrested after she was accused of threatening a family with a steak knife on Friday.
Police say waitress Rhonda Kelly pulled a steak knife out on a family of four, including 2 small children with special needs, at the IHOP in Massapequa.
The mother of the family told News 12 that the service at the pancake house was "really bad" that morning. She says she spoke to the manager about it and was then asked to leave.
She says she started to leave, but overheard another waitress say something about her children.  The mother posted on social media, "A verbal argument ensued and then that's when the waitress Ronda Kelley grabbed a knife holding it in an attack matter and said You wanna go B- and came at my two small children, my husband, and myself."
She says she didn't want to say anything more to News 12 until she spoke with her attorney.
Ashley Gregory, of Massapequa, says she eats at the IHOP a few times a week. She was there on Friday and says the alleged victims were the troublemakers, not Kelly.
"She did not come at her with a knife," says Gregory. "When they walked in, they were complaining about prices…I've been a waitress for many years and it was sad the way they were treating that waitress."
In a statement to News 12, an IHOP manager said "the well-being of our guests and team members is paramount. An incident took place that required us to call police to ensure safety. Because police are now investigating, all questions should be answered by authorities."
