Nassau DA: 14 indicted in NYC-to-LI heroin ring

MINEOLA -

Nassau DA Madeline Singas announced the indictments of 14 people accused of operating a heroin ring that stretched from the city to Long Island.

Leigh Jackson, aka Big Chris, and his girlfriend Karan Young, a retired NYPD narcotics detective, are accused of selling heroin from Brooklyn and Queens to neighborhoods all over Nassau County.

Detectives say a lot of the heroin was sold in the community of Hicksville at barbershops, auto body shops and salons. Heroin was also sold in Long Beach, Merrick, Levittown, Elmont, Garden City and Hempstead in packets marked “concussion,” authorities say.

Police say drugs were sold out of a 2007 Nissan Altima equipped with a secret compartment where heroin, cash, handguns and ammunition were hid.

The operation was on its way to selling a million packets of heroin a year, according to the DA.

“Drug dealers need to understand that what they're putting out on the street is killing people,” Singas said. “If you're selling heroin, we will find you."

Big Chris, the alleged mastermind of the heroin ring, faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
