Woman delivers baby on way to Southampton Hospital

A Remsenburg woman being driven to the hospital by her husband delivered her baby en route Saturday morning in the passenger seat of their Range Rover.

Kate and Evan Church were on their way to Southampton Hospital when her contractions started to increase in intensity. Kate Church, now a mother of three children, says she was 10 minutes into their 25 minute drive when she delivered Benjamin Phoenix Church, 7 pounds and 4 ounces.

"I had one of those pregnancy-giving birth screams...and then just felt the baby totally come out," she told News 12.

The couple was then stopped by a police officer, who escorted them to the hospital.

"All I was concerned with was making sure that the baby was breathing and OK and mom was OK and getting there right away. All I was thinking about was life," says Evan Church.

Mother and baby are in good health.
