Nassau teen performs CPR to save grandmother’s life

A Nassau County high school student is being hailed a hero after she saved her grandmother's life.

Zahrah Ibraham, 17, was keeping score at her sister's basketball game at Calhoun High School last month when she suddenly heard her mother screaming. When she looked over, she says her 78-year-old grandmother was pale and slumped over.

Ibraham then jumped into action as she ran across the gym to try and help her grandmother. She says she felt for a pulse and began CPR. Within a minute, her grandmother started breathing again.

Ibraham says she learned CPR when she was in eighth grade as part of a special program in the Bellmore-Merrick Central School District.
