Good Samaritan pulls 3 teens from Lake Ronkonkoma
A quick-thinking good Samaritan launched his rowboat and helped save three teen boys who fell into the water in Lake Ronkonkoma Wednesday.
Jeff Miller says he was on shore in his yard when he heard yelling coming from the lake. He grabbed a pair of binoculars and saw a capsized boat in the chilly body of water.
"I just grabbed the rowboat that I have on the side of the house, dragged it down and went out," he says.
"My friend passed out, so we tried to lift him up to the boat," recounts Ruben Jadan, a 14-year-old who was among the three boys who went overboard. "I was so cold my legs were getting paralyzed. I was holding my phone up to call the cops."
Ruben's dad says he had told his son not to go out that far, but at this point he's just grateful he's alive. And he credits Miller's fast response for the happy ending.
As for the boys, Ruben says they are all doing OK.
