Marine's family to receive $8M in wrongful death suit at Nassau jail

News 12 Long Island has learned a Marine's family will receive nearly $8 million for the death of the veteran in the Nassau jail.

Decorated Iraq war veteran Bartholomew Ryan hanged himself at the jail in 2012 after an arrest for DWI.

A jury found Nassau and the jail's medical provider negligent in Ryan's death.

The jury agreed Ryan did not receive proper care even though he had post traumatic stress disorder and was considered a suicide risk.
