East End aerospace company cancels plans for rogue air show
Company officials for Luminati Aerospace in Calverton stunned the Town of Riverhead this week by announcing on their website they were going to hold an air show in June.
Councilman Tim Hubbard and Supervisor Sean Walter says they were not informed about the event and questioned why the company didn't ask for official permission or seek permits from the town.
"For an event of this magnitude, the town needs a sizable amount of time to be able to put it together," says Hubbard. "At this point in time for a June 17 show, I don't think so."
Riverhead Town code requires events that bring 5,000 or more people to be filed six months in advance.
The event was dubbed "The Cradle of Aviation Air Show," apparently using the name without permission from Nassau's Cradle of Aviation Museum, which was also surprised and angry.
A spokesperson for Luminati told News 12 that the air show is off for now and might be held next year. The show was to feature the company's new solar airplane and other vintage aircrafts.
