Man accused of fatally shooting girlfriend in Dix Hills pleads not guilty

A man accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend in Dix Hills Thursday night pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder inside a Central Islip courtroom.

According to police, Eric Bermudez confronted his girlfriend Regina Flecha on Burroughs Avenue, north of Kenmore Street, around 7:30 p.m. Thursday and shot her multiple times.

Authorities say Bermudez then pulled Flecha into his vehicle and drove away from the scene.

Police observed Bermudez's vehicle speeding on Fifth Avenue in Bay Shore and pulled over the vehicle when they discovered the victim.

Flecha, 37, of Dix Hills, was taken to Southside Hospital where she died a short time later.

A judge denied Bermudez bail.
