Protesters demand President Trump show tax returns
Protesters in Hauppauge and Bethpage joined thousands across the country who spent Saturday demanding that President Donald Trump release his tax returns.
They marked the date, commonly referred to as National Tax Day, by putting pressure on the president to make good on a campaign promise.
During the campaign, then-candidate Trump promised to release his tax returns after a routine IRS audit was completed.
Long Island Progressive Coalition director Lisa Tyson believes the contents of the president's tax returns may help to explain the White House's positions on key issues.
More than 1,000,000 have signed an online White House petition calling on President Trump to immediately release his tax returns.
Not everyone is interested in seeing the president's tax returns, a recent Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll found that just 51 percent of voters say the president's taxes are important to them.
