Police: Report of shots fired near Coney Island amusement park were false
Panic ensued after a report that shots had been fired near an amusement park in Coney Island, police say.
The incident happened Sunday on Surf Avenue and West 8th Street near an amusement area around 7 p.m.
Screaming crowds ran in all directions after a report that shots had been fired, according to police.
However, police say the report was false.
At least one person suffered minor injuries from being caught up in the crowd of running people.
