Curtains closing on Valley Stream movie theater
Sunrise Multiplex Cinemas in Valley Stream is showing its final films tonight after more than three decades in business.
The last movie scheduled at the multiplex is a 10:10 p.m. showing of "Into the Woods."
The 14-screen theater first opened in December of 1979. Before that, the location had been a drive-in movie theater for 40 years.
Although the theater was known as a family establishment for many years, it did see its share of violence. A 1990 shooting killed one person and injured several others in a packed theater that was showing "The Godfather III."
The company that owns the theater says it was sold to make way for an expansion of the Green Acres Mall.
