LIers observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Schools, banks and most federal, state and local government buildings were closed today to reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.



In Selma, Alabama, hundreds marched in the streets yesterday, including Oprah Winfrey.



The cast and crew of the movie "Selma" honored the late civil rights leader.



The 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery focused on a peaceful demand for black voting rights.



The Village of Hempstead kicked off its annual parade to honor King at Kennedy Memorial Park.



High school bands and fire companies took part.
