Brown water has been a source of frustration for years for a number of Malverne homeowners.
A Facebook page titled "I love Malverne, but hate the brown water" has garnered over 250 likes from people like Jeanne D'Esposito.
D'Esposito claims New York American Water Company promised to replace the water main on Norwood Avenue by the end of 2014, but it still hasn't happened. She says water company inspectors told her that the water's brown hue is due to high levels of iron. They also told her the water is safe. D'Esposito's family filters their water, regardless.
D'Esposito says that the water company has repaired old water mains on other blocks in Malverne, but not hers. The water company says it's been trying to fix the issue since 2009 and that it has new projects on the horizon to try to solve the problem this year.
