Police: Man arrested in attempted Northampton sex assault

A Wading River man has been arrested and accused of attacking a woman and attempting to sexually assault her.

Police say Richard Rause attacked a woman at Wildwood Park in Northampton Wednesday afternoon.

The 30-year-old allegedly held a gun to the woman's head, punched and hit her and then dragged her to a lake and tried to rape her. Police say the woman managed to get away.

Rause was arrested yesterday at his home, but police had to chase him after he briefly escaped from a police car.

Rause is facing attempted rape charges along with charges for attempting to evade custody.
