FDNY: Fire near Penn Station was accidental

The evening rush was back on track after a fire Tuesday morning near Penn Station.

Cellphone video from the scene captured huge flames coming from an underground construction site. The blaze broke out at around 2:30 a.m. at 34th Street and Eighth Avenue.

Crews say the fire started in a temporary wiring area used for lighting construction work. Investigators say the fire was accidental.

Some trains had to be diverted and many commuters experienced delays that stretched into the day.
