Motorcade raises funds for slain NYPD detectives
Long Islanders came together today to help the families of two slain NYPD detectives in a unique way.
A motorcade of more than 600 vehicles, including exotic and classic cars, drove from Syosset to Queens. It was dubbed a "Run for the Blue" to honor Detectives Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos.
The event was organized by the Long Island Exotics Club. Participants gave a minimum $25 donation to raise money for the officers' families. Organizers were hoping to raise at least $15,000.
The money raised today will go to the Silver Shield Foundation and the New York City PBA Widows' and Children's Fund for the Liu and Ramos families.
The two officers were gunned down in their patrol car in an ambush in Brooklyn last month. The shooter then committed suicide in a nearby subway station.
