Busing battle rages at Northport schools
Some Northport students say they are being kicked off the school bus because they are no longer eligible for a ride.
The Northport-East Northport School District told News 12 that families have to live at least 1 mile from school property in order to be eligible for bus service.
Two parents told News 12 that the district incorrectly measured the distance from their homes to their respective schools. JoAnn Cosgun says the measurement from the front of her home to East Northport Middle School is 1.04 miles.
Robyn Carlson says she won't accept the district's calculations to Ocean Avenue Elementary School because, according to the district guidelines, the distance was not measured to an approved school entrance.
A district spokesperson told News 12 that both families will not be getting buses back anytime soon. The spokesperson said the Cosguns never qualified for bus service and the Carlsons slipped through the system due to a computer glitch.
Both families say they will continue to fight the district over the bussing issue.
