Twelve teams equipped with broomsticks gathered last weekend at Hofstra University to compete in a Harry Potter-inspired Quidditch tournament.

Participants didn't need to be a Harry Potter fanatic to play the sport of Quidditch, but they did need to have a sense of athleticism, toughness and, of course, a broomstick.

The rules are simple: chasers score with a quaffle, while beaters use bludgers to play defense. The keeper is the goalie, and the seeker pursues a flying ball called a golden snitch to end the game. In lieu of the charmed flying golden ball with wings, participants in this game use a person to substitute as the snitch.

Tufts University was the victor of the weekend's tournament, while the nationally ranked Hofstra University team placed 4th out of 12 teams.
