Residents and school officials say students who took part in the Sachem East senior scavenger hunt took the annual tradition too far.

Some of the items on a publicized list for the scavenger hunt included "dancing on a grave," "hit 100 miles per hour," "steal a mailbox," and "run a red light." The list also included engaging in sex acts and defecating on school property. For each item completed on the list, students earned "points."

Ellen Okvist, president of the Lake Ronkonkoma Heritage Association, says a 150-year-old headstone was damaged over the past couple of days at Lake Ronkonkoma Cemetery. She says American flags were also pulled from their plots and scattered on the ground. She suspects the scavenger hunt was related to the incident.

The Sachem school superintendent told News 12 he is aware that some seniors at Sachem High School East took part in a scavenger hunt over the weekend. School officials say the scavenger hunt is not a school-sponsored event.
