An exclusive News 12/Hofstra poll asked Long Island residents how they think allegations of police misconduct should be handled.
Of those polled, 38 percent said allegations should be handled by a civilian complaint review board. Another 24 percent said police should be left to police themselves.
Another unspecified solution was favored by 33 percent, and the rest were undecided.
Nassau County has hired a nationally recognized police consulting company to review its ethics and general policing policies.
The group has already begun to make recommendations to the police department.
It could recommend a civilian complaint review board, but as of now, it has not done that.
