Oscar Rivera arrested in alleged DWI crash in Brentwood that killed passenger David Gonzalez
Police say a Shirley man has been arrested for allegedly driving drunk and causing a crash that killed his passenger.
Police say Oscar Rivera, 27, was driving a Lincoln Town Car that crashed head-on into a tree at around 6 a.m. Saturday on Grand Boulevard in Brentwood.
The passenger in the vehicle, 29-year-old David Gonzalez, was pronounced dead at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.
Detectives say it was not raining at the time of the crash. They say there is a stop sign in the area, and it's possible the driver did not stop for it.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is ongoing. Rivera is being treated at a local hospital for serious injuries, and will be arraigned at a later date.
Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact Vehicular Crime Unit detectives at 631-854-6555.
