Glen Cove City Council, planning board hold public meeting on proposed condominiums on Glen Cove Avenue
A public hearing with the Glen Cove City Council and the planning board was held for Glen Cove homeowners Tuesday night regarding a proposed condominium complex on Glen Cove Avenue.
The complex, called The Villa at Glen Cove, would have nearly 200 units spread across nearly four acres of land. It would replace a small commercial property at the site.
Marsha Silverman says she bought her dream house three years ago, which is surrounded by trees. The new development behind her home would mean tearing many of them down.
"The peace and quiet will be replaced with lights from apartments, people looking in off their balconies into our backyard. No more privacy," said Silverman.
The developer told residents they've made the project smaller in scale, from seven stories high to four stories. The mayor of Glen Cove says the project might enhance the community. He hopes to attract young professionals to the development.
There will be another public hearing in mid-October. The City Council is expected to take their vote on the project at that time.
