Coast Guard member Christopher Montgomery, of Manorville, missing
A member of the Coast Guard who is from Long Island has gone missing.
Radio operator Christopher Montgomery, of Manorville, was last seen Wednesday at his base at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island. He was reported missing after he failed to show up for an appointment at the health clinic on the base Thursday morning.
Montgomery's parents say they spoke to him Wednesday night. "Nothing seemed to be bothering him," his father Gregory said.
The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating, and the NYPD is treating his disappearance as a missing person's case. News 12 has been told there is no evidence that Montgomery was the victim of a crime.
A spokesman for the Coast Guard confirms Montgomery has never gone missing before. They say he is currently listed as an "active duty member who did not report for duty."
Montgomery, 26, has been a petty officer for seven years, and is scheduled to finish his service in April.
Anyone with information is asked to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
