Derek Jeter ends career with RBI single vs. Red Sox at Fenway Park
Derek Jeter's name was on a lineup card for the last time today.
The Yankees captain ended an era with an RBI single in his last at-bat. He had played designated hitter for three innings against the Red Sox at Fenway Park before getting the hit, bowing out of the game and becoming a grinning spectator in the dugout.
The final hit, Jeter's 3,465th, raised his career batting average to .310. The Yanks went on to win the game 9-5.
The Red Sox sent Jeter off before the game with a ceremony that included salutes from Boston's greats.
The final at-bat of Jeter's career was more muted than the last game he played at Yankee Stadium on Thursday. He scored a walkoff single against the Baltimore Orioles in the bottom of the ninth.
