A Suffolk County police officer struck by a car during a traffic stop in Huntington is now in a medically induced coma.
Authorities say officers Nicholas Guerrero and Heriberto Lugo were struck Monday afternoon on Partridge Lane.
Prosecutors say the driver, Chad Morizsan, and his nephew, Nicholas Franzone, fled the scene and then proceeded to carjack a woman in Commack. They were arrested at a Target store in Central Islip.
Officer Guerrero suffered a head injury after being struck, and remains in intensive care. The 36-year-old is currently listed in serious but stable condition after undergoing brain surgery.
Officer Lugo was treated and released from an area hospital.
Morizsan and Franzone have been charged in the hit-and-run, along with a string of other crimes.
