Police: 50-year-old Richard Becher dies after being hit in head with ball at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank

Police say a man died this weekend in a freak accident at a Suffolk County ball park.



The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. Saturday night.



Richard Becher, a 50-year-old Little League coach, was pitching at batting practice to his 12-year-old son's travel team when he was hit by a line drive at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank.



Becher was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
