Police: Man attacked woman in Massapequa home

Police say a man attacked a woman inside his Massapequa home Friday afternoon, prompting a large police presence that included SWAT team officers.
According to police, Robert Ruggerio, 43, became involved in a physical altercation inside his Orchard Street home with a 28-year-old victim.
Detectives say Ruggerio threw the victim against a wall and grabbed her by the neck. The victim grabbed a knife for protection, but police say Ruggerio pulled it from her and cut her wrist several times.
The victim was hospitalized to be treated for minor lacerations, police say.
Ruggerio was arrested without incident. He is being charged with second-degree assault, criminal possesion of a weapon and criminal obstruction of breathing, police say.
Officers shut down roads in the neighborhood while they investigated. It was originally reported to be a barricade situation, but police now say there were no hostages.
