Suffolk promises $2.3M for Ronkonkoma Hub
Suffolk County is promising the Town of Brookhaven $2.3 million toward the Ronkonkoma Hub.
Town Supervisor Ed Romaine says the funds are needed for aspects of the project like infrastructure. County Executive Steve Bellone says the project is key to reversing brain drain - the loss of young, skilled workers.
While politicians are calling the project Long Island's future, some businesses in the area of the planned site claim they are being offered less than their property is worth.
"They are just kicking us to the curb," says Brandon Becker.
The redevelopment project will include 1,400 apartments, as well as office and retail space.
