A man was killed and a woman is in critical condition after their car plunged down a 20-foot embankment in Haverstraw.
Police say the one-car crash happened around 9 p.m. yesterday on Willow Grove Road, just east of Gate Hill Road.
Investigators tell News 12 that Julia Stanwycks, 22, from Dix Hills, lost control of her car, it then overturned and went over the embankment and came to rest against a tree. The passenger in the car, Jacob Nadien, 23 of Huntington, was pronounced dead at the scene. Nadien was wearing a seatbelt.
Stanwycks was rushed to Nyack Hospital in critical condition, but is expected to survive.
Police say they are still investigating the crash, and it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
