Boy strangled while playing with rope swing in Elmont

(11/17/05) ELMONT Nassau County police officials believe the death of a 13-year-old boy in Elmont Thursday was the result of a tragic accident.

Authorities say Julio Sanchez was playing with a rope swing in a wooded area when he somehow became entangled. According to investigators, Sanchez was strangled after the rope became wrapped around his neck. The victim was playing with friends at the time of the incident.

Sanchez was a seventh-grader at Floral Park Memorial High School. Despite speculation by some residents, police do not believe Sanchezs death is the result of any type of deliberate choking game. They believe it was purely accidental in nature.
