Day laborers cleared from Farmingville 7-11

The new owner of a 7-11 in Farmingville got the help he needed in removing day laborers that congregate outside his store.

The owner called the dozens of immigrant workers that regularly line the sidewalk and parking lot loiterers and trespassers and asked County Executive Steve Levy to aid in clearing the property. So Levy gave the police the go ahead to step up enforcement at the store.

Many customers are thrilled at the now vacant parking lot, and Levy says he will help any business owner who asks for help. But advocates for Latino workers are angered and feel the decision is an act of discrimination.
