Heated issue over senior homes divides many in Patchogue

Protestors in Patchogue are rallying over a proposal to build senior housing behind the movie theater on Sunrise Highway.

Members of the Blue Point Community Civic Association say they are worried about the wetlands future, in addition to traffic concerns. Meanwhile, developer Alec Orenstein says they've been talking to the community and they are trying to revise the development plan to meet all of their concerns.

The property is zoned for light industrial and before any homes could be built the Brookhaven Town Council would have to vote on a zoning change. A public hearing on the issue will be held on December 6.
