Many LI shoppers skip the mall by logging on to their computer

Many Long Islanders are substituting the crowded malls with the comfort of their own home, letting the World Wide Web be their guide.

Analysts predict that Internet sales will see a big hike nationally this holiday season, saying online retailers have better inventory and distribution control. Lauren Palladino, of Syosset, says during her Thanksgiving break from college she'd rather be online than in-line.

However, some say nothing will replace a day at the mall. Plainview resident Ian Haberman says he likes to see and feel what hes buying.
