Sea Cliff teen charged with setting fires at four locations

Another Long Island teen is facing charges Monday for allegedly setting fires at a number of locations.

Investigators say 16-year-old Steven Keel of Sea Cliff set four fires, including one at North Shore Middle School. He is also accused of setting fires at a vacant house and a country club. Keel's arrest comes in the wake of three other recent arson arrests. A 13-year-old and two 14-year-olds were recently charged for allegedly setting fire to a vacant supermarket in Oceanside.

According to Nassau County Fire Marshal Vincent McManus, a quarter of deliberately set fires are started by teens. McManus says there doesn't seem to be any particular reason for the rise in juvenile fires. He adds it just seems to be that juveniles or youths have time on their hands and set the fires for excitement.
