Thieves strike in Islip Terrace and Centereach

Thieves broke into two homes in Islip Terrace and Centereach Tuesday morning.

Police are searching for three men in the Islip Terrace incident. They say the suspects were armed and broke into a home on Richard Avenue. Police say an occupant of the home was beaten before the men left with $3,000 in cash and a rifle. Hours later an apartment in Centereach was broken into. The tenants were sleeping when two armed men entered the apartment demanding money.

No one was seriously injured in either incident. Police do not believe the robberies are related.
