Huntington Housing Coalition looks to tackle affordable housing crisis
The Huntington Housing Coalition met with town officials Wednesday to develop a new strategy in creating affordable housing.
The summit concluded with the drafting of an 18-point plan that includes recruiting corporations to finance homes and holding seminars to change the public perception that affordable housing is for minorities only. The two sides also discussed rewriting zoning codes to build homes on existing parking lots and above storefronts.
The coalition will vote on the 18-point agenda in the middle of January. If adopted, coalition officials say it will become their 2006 blueprint for dealing with the affordable housing crisis.
