Ring of jewel thieves wanted nationally strike in Bay Shore

Police across Long Island, as well as the FBI, are searching for a ring of jewel thieves that struck in Bay Shore Wednesday.

The FBI says the Gate Cutters Crew stole approximately $80,000 worth of jewelry and Movado watches from the Zales at the South Shore Mall. Officials say the thieves usually cut through the security gates of mall jewelry stores before or after the stores open.

The thieves are wanted for more than 50 robberies in 10 states since 2003. Police officials say the group has hit every major mall on Long Island, including Roosevelt Field and the Smith Haven Mall. Anyone with information is asked to call (1-800) 220-TIPS (8477).
