Police search for cop impersonators who tried to rob Massapequa home

Police are on the lookout Friday for two cop impersonators who used phony badges to make their way into a Massapequa home.

Nassau police say the two men had phony badges to look like they were undercover cops. Police say at first the family was fooled and let the men in when they knocked on the door of the Nevin Terrace home. According to police, the men searched the house for valuables and eventually demanded money, which they didn't get.

The homeowner, who asked to only be identified as Robbie, says he was not home at the time but his kids and grandkids were. He has now told his kids to think twice before opening the door even if the person has a badge.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
