Shirley man foils bank robber?s escape

A Shirley man thwarted the escape attempt of a suspected bank robber Saturday.

Police say Derek Diskin and a friend were working on Diskins truck in his front yard when a man ran across the lawn. Police say the man had recently robbed a North Fork Bank and was engaged in a chase from authorities. Diskin, a former Marine and Connecticut sheriff, confronted the suspect and held him down until police arrived.

Police have not released the suspects name or details of the bank robbery.
