Long Island parents outraged over parole of convicted child molester

Child advocates expressed outrage after a babysitter convicted of child molestation was paroled and released from prison Thursday.

Wendy Hatras was convicted of molesting the 2-year-old son of Stacey Berzack and has served the last four years in prison. Parents are concerned that Hatras was only assigned level 2 sex offender status, meaning she only has to report her home zip code to police. Child advocates also say she has dramatically changed her appearance and her new photograph will not show up in the state sex offender Web site for several months. This means she will be able to live in a community with relative anonymity.

Hatras last known address was in Commack, where several parents have already expressed concern that she will return to the area and become a repeat offender.
