Brentwood basement becomes deathtrap for man on Christmas Day

A basement in Brentwood became a deathtrap for a man on Christmas Day.

Suffolk County police and the Brentwood Fire Department responded to a fire at a home on South Fifth Avenue. According to police, at least 12 people lived in the house even though it is zoned as a single-family dwelling. Six were home at the time of the fire, which started in the basement.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. Police say the homes owners, Jose and Norma Santos, could face charges.
