Wang scraps plan for 60-story tower in bid for Nassau Coliseum project

Plans to build a 60-story tower near the Nassau Coliseum have fallen by the wayside.

Billionaire Charles Wang has scaled down his redevelopment proposal of the area, hoping the county will choose his bid. The Lighthouse project has been a magnet for criticism from groups who thought the tower was out of place in suburbia.

Wang is in a bidding war with three other developers to build the new coliseum. A special committee will now review the proposals before making a recommendation to County Executive Tom Suozzi, who will then present it to the legislature.
