Property tax meeting becomes political standoff in East Meadow

(08/02/05) EAST MEADOW ? A property tax meeting at East Meadow High School Tuesday turned into a political battle between Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi and his political challenger.

Suozzi and Nassau Comptroller Howard Weitzman spent the evening answering questions about taxes from residents. Suozzi says he has worked hard to keep taxes reasonable. The county executive also told residents in attendance that Nassau schools need to receive more funding from New York State.

However, residents weren?t the only individuals in attendance. Suozzi?s challenger for the county executive position in the upcoming fall elections, Greg Peterson, was also at the meeting. Peterson challenged Suozzi to show leadership and accept responsibility for rising taxes in Nassau County.
