Floral Park residents outraged after asbestos spread throughout their neighborhood

Residents of one Floral Park neighborhood said Friday they are outraged after the demolition of a house sent a cloud of asbestos into the air.

Ciro Sivio lives next door to the home that was being demolished on 257th Street near 87th Street. Sivio alerted the Department of Environmental Protection about what he believed was asbestos that coated his garden and yard. An Inspector was able to determine at first sight of the scene that asbestos was present. The construction site was then shut down and a cleanup was ordered by officials.

The builder, Oak Ridge Building, declined to comment on the situation.
