Study says sexual misconduct is top reason for teacher license revocations in NY

A new Associated Press report shows most teachers in New York State lose their teaching licenses because of sexual offenses. Over the past five years at least 77 men and women school employees have lost their licenses statewide because of sexual misconduct.

Professor Charol Shakeshaft of Hofstra University says that new statistic only scratches the surface because most incidents don?t get reported. Professor Shakeshaft says about seven to 12 kids actually report an incident of sexual abuse.

The Kings Park superintendent says there are likely more cases of teacher abuse than are reflected in records. That is because a lot of teachers quit or move before they are charged.
