Focus 12: Through the Roof - Part III

Suffolk and Nassau counties are currently offering programs to help first time homebuyers fulfill their dreams.

Marianne Garvin with the Community Development Corporation (CDC) in Centereach says they believe the first time homebuyer does have a shot at entering the difficult and expensive Long Island market. Garvin says CDC provides financial fitness classes, which teaches people how to save money and build credit. They also offer homebuyer education sessions, where counselors analyze their credit and assist in finding a mortgage.

The Nassau County Department of Housing offers similar programs like the First Time Home Club, which can provide grants up to $5,000 down payment and closing costs.
